Scholarships in Agricultural Science for 2026

Two scholarships, supported by Viridis Ag, Farm and General and South East Premium Wheat Growers’ Association (SEPWA) are offered annually to support capacity building in the agricultural industry and raise awareness of depression in rural Australia. The scholarships are available to a commencing or current undergraduate student studying in Agricultural Science.

The Rob Ashman Memorial scholarship, supported by Viridis Ag and SEPWA, is for $4500 per annum.

Rob Ashman sadly took his life in 2015 after many years of suffering from depression. Rob managed properties for Hassad Australia; was an engaged member of SEPWA and oversaw SEPWA trials for Hassad Australia. Rob was a thoughtful and generous man who was always there to help others and was loved by many. His wife Sue and their four children, along with their families, still mostly all live in the Esperance community.

Viridis Ag is a leading Australian agricultural company committed to excellence in food production and amongst other things, supporting people and communities. Viridis Ag purchased the Hassad Australia property managed by Rob before his untimely passing and is committed to remembering Rob and all that he stood for.

The Farm and General Scholarship sponsored by Farm and General and SEPWA is for $4000.

Farm and General is an independent, locally owned business that provides agricultural inputs and services to growers in the southeastern wheatbelt.

Each scholarship recipient will be required to do up to a week’s work experience, at a date to be negotiated with SEPWA to suit both parties. The purpose of the work experience is to support the recipient in understanding the range of career opportunities available in the agricultural sector and the pathway required to achieve them.

Eligibility

This scholarship is available to a commencing or current undergraduate student ideally from the Esperance Port Zone (EPZ) who is looking to pursue a career in Agriculture after completing their studies.

Duration

Twelve months, with the option to re-apply annually.
